“You’re hired!” He said with a smile on his face, reaching his hand out as if he was going in for a hand shake. I looked down at his hand, he had long, uncut fingernails with his unpleasing hand, almost made me feel uncomfortable. I put my hand on his and we shook hands. It was very firm and proper. “Glad to have you on the team.” He says.
His name is Bruce, and he is around 5 foot 10, maybe 6 foot, he was wearing tan khakis and a red and white checkered short sleeve shirt button-up. His short brown hair is slicked back, and his bright blue eyes are impossible to not stare at.
“Your desk is over here, sorry, very unprofessional of me but I don’t recall your name, what is it again, is it Susanna?” He looked at me. “It’s Sienna.” I said. “Right, Sienna, my apologies. Let me show you to your office desk, you’re going to be right next to my friend, Gerold over here. He can be very quiet.” I follow him and he leads me to the very back of the place, and the guy he was talking about is just staring at his computer screen with lifeless eyes. He is dressed very unprofessionally. He is wearing a black shirt that says ‘I paused my game to be here’ with a gaming controller on it with his stomach hanging out. It appears that it has grease stains or something on it. He is wearing red and black shorts that look unwashed. He looks at me as I look at him. He smiles with crooked, unbrushed teeth and waves. I wave back, disgusted and sit at my seat. Before I sit down, I see a coffee maker in the distance, “I need some of that.” I say to myself. I head towards the coffee maker and grab a cup and fill it up. Once it is filled, I take a sip, refreshing.
I made it to my desk and Gerold was fast asleep. I chuckle and turn to my desk and I see a yellow post-it note stuck onto my monitor. I grabbed it and squinted to read, it read, “You should leave.” It was written in red pen. I assumed it was Gerold and crumbled it up and threw it away in my trash can; I didn’t think much of it.
I sit down on my chair and turn on my computer. The computer turns on and the login screen pops up. I see another post-it, but this time it just simply has my login information. I type in the information. Welcome, Sienna, it says. I look back at Gerold and he is still sleeping. I looked the other way and suddenly my boss was there, staring at me. “Oh, hey,” I say, “I found this note on my desk.” I told him. I pulled the note out of the trash and uncrumple it and there wasn’t anything on it. “What?” I say in confusion. “I don’t see anything.” He says,” Let me know if you need anything, Sienna.” I stare at the post-it in confusion. I shake my head and glance back at my monitor, and my body freezes in fear. My background on my computer says, “You’re going to regret your decision.” I stand up and back away from my chair.
I head to my boss's office and knock on the door. At first, there was no answer, so I knocked again. He opened the door and invited me in. I told him that I wasn’t feeling the best and I understand it’s not a good first impression, but that I wanted to go home and take the rest of the day off. He shrugs and tells me if I don’t feel good, I don’t feel good and take the rest of the day off. But there was one thing he said that concerned me. “I feel upset about your decision.” I don’t know why, but it reminds me of the message I saw on the computer. I shrugged it off and let him know I was sorry and that I would be back tomorrow.
When I arrive home, I sit in my car and take a deep breath before exiting the car. I walk up the stairs to my door and try to grab the front door key but drop it on the ground. “Damn it.” I say. I reach down, grab the keys and finally get the key and put it into the lock and attempt to open the door, but before I do, put my hand on the door and look up and notice another post-it. But this one is different. Terrified, I look at it, “Look behind you.” It reads. I take a step back and freeze in fear before everything goes black.
