Inside of the nursing home, there were numerous residents living their lives intertwined through shared moments and experiences. Among them, one person truly shone with warmth and kindness: Maggy. Her presence was like a beam of sunshine, bringing genuine care and compassion to everyone she met. Maggy's friendly nature and sincere interest in others made her a vital source of support and comfort for everyone in the nursing home. It wasn't just what she said, but what she did that revealed her deep kindness; she was always ready to listen, offer a helping hand, or share a warm smile with anyone who needed it. Her talent for lifting spirits and spreading joy was a special gift that left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. To her fellow residents, Maggy was more than just a favorite; she represented the beauty found in simple acts of kindness and human connection, reminding everyone that even in a nursing home, love and compassion could thrive and brighten lives.
Her 70 year old hands, on the couch’s armrest as she glares at the television until her front door opens. She turns to face there and she sees her husband, Beau. “Oh, Beau, it’s truly wonderful to see you!” she says. With a gentle effort, she rose to her feet, her hand pressed against her frail back for support, and made her way over to her husband. “Welcome home, Beau!” she says giving him a hug like she hasn’t seen him in ages. “Come, have a seat.” she pats the couch cushion, waiting for him to take his seat. He grunts, “My back is killing me.” Maggy slowly stands up, “Let me grab you a drink, dear. I’ll get you your favorite, orange juice!” Beau smiles.
Maggy grabs the orange juice and gives it to Beau as they laugh together. Maggy puts her hand over Beau’s shoulder as they look at each other. The nurse walks in and sees Maggy doing something unexpected, something unusual. “Maggy, what are you doing?” she asks. Maggy looks up, I'm spending time with my husband!” she smiles. “Oh he’s the sweetest, isn’t he?” The nurse looks at her, upset, as she finally says, “Maggy, your husband has been dead for 10 years”
